After the crappiest autumn ever in the SE at last a decent forecast...coinciding with the weekend...and also the UKWA freewave event at West Witterings. It would have been extremely rude not to enter a windy local wavesailing comp...so I did. :)

There wasn't quite enough breeze today for proper heats so an expression session was run instead. It didn't start well for me as I made the classic amateur error of sailing in the wrong heat :( came back in to the beach to be informed by Jem with words to the effect of "what are you doing here bender it's your heat now" - doh! So I blobbed back out and tried to make the most of the very marginal conditions. One dodgy backside-bum-wiggling wave ride on some knee-high mush, one jump and a couple of dropped duck-gybes was enough to earn me 2nd place in the amateurs! Probably because I was planing more than any other sailor in my heat I reckon.

I'd forgotten how much fun heat sailing is! In spite of the crap conditions I really got a buzz from the competition. Can't wait for tomorrow now which is forecast to be much windier. Only 4 amateurs have entered so maybe I've got a chance of winning a something...? :)
